CWCC Open 10M TT 20th Feb 2016 Race Report
On Saturday Coalville Wheelers staged their first open event of the 2016 season, a 10 mile time trial on the hilly Breedon circuit. The race attracted an entry of 98 riders, some travelling long distances to take part on a dry, mild but windy afternoon. Despite the windy conditions a new course record was set by the winner Matt Woods riding for Performance Cycles C.C. who finished with a time of 21.26 . In second place was the former course record holder, Matt Sinclair (Lutterworth Cycle Centre) in a time of 21.52 just two seconds faster than third placed Tom Ward (Team Echelon Rotor) who recorded who recorded 21.54. Just one second behind Ward was fourth placed Jonathon Wale (Loughborough Students) in 21.55. Fifth place was Aaron Ward in 22.24 and in sixth place local rider Pete Nichols (Team PB Performance) in 22.26. Seventh place was taken by the first veteran on the day, Julian Ramsbotton (Team Pedalpushers RT) in 22.29. Eighth was James Perkins (Team Bottrill) in 22.42, in ninth Barry Charlton (Swinnerton Cycles) with 23.10 and tenth spot was taken by Carl Dyson (Beeston CC) in 23.15.
The team competition was won by the newly formed Team Bottrill on their first outing. Aaron Ward (5th) recorded 22.24, James Perkins (8th) 22.42 and Sean Vincent (13th) 23.24.
Fastest Lady on the day was Melissa Denman (RPD Racing with a time of 27.49 from runner up Gail Phillips (Sheffield Phoinix CC) in 29.00. In third place was Sally Maitland ( Beeston CC) IN 29.58.
The quickest Coalvillle Wheeler was Gary Purdy in 24.20. Other Wheelers times were Mark Brighty 29.30, and Andy Leach 30.11. Coalville Triathlon Club’s Ian Webster finished in 25.53 and Les Prachett 29.53.
Next event staged by the Wheelers is the BDCA 2 up team time trial on Saturday 5th March starting at 2 p.m. from the clubhouse in Griffydam. The clubhouse is also open every Sunday morning from 10 a.m. for club and family rides when refreshments are available. All are welcome to take part.
