The Nottingham Clarion 50 was designated as the Club’s championship event this year on the tough A50/5 course. On a hot, humid morning, the late start of 10am meant all competitors were riding in the midday sun – phew! And a raising head wind, made things a tad more difficult.

Steve Faulkner, who is already the 10 mile champ, added to his trophies with a great time of 1:59:28 and also had the audacity to win the handicap trophy as well with only a one minute allowance.

Evergreen vet and club stalwart; John Quimby benefited from his training regime and wise advice from his training partner; Mick Bradford, to record an excellent time of 2:4:32, that’s over 24mph! Wow! John won second actual, second handicap and the over 60 prize in the event. A good morning’s work was rightly rewarded with a roast beef dinner at a nearby hostelry, and some rehydration fluid!

Third actual went to Tony Hayman with a time of 2:9:52. Steve Robinson and Dawn Hayman completed the course in very creditable times of 2:30:58 and 2:40:45 respectively. Dawn took the third handicap prize and was only 13 seconds behind John.

With four of the five being triathletes (obviously not JQ!) it just shows what a versatile and tough lot they are. Congratulations to all for finishing a hard event.
